Terms of Use

Effective 2026-10-07

These terms apply when you use the Soapstone app or soapstoneapp.com (together, "Soapstone"). Soapstone is run by Matthew Wilson and Michael Mason ("we"). By using Soapstone, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Soapstone.

Soapstone is an unofficial fan project. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by FromSoftware or Bandai Namco. Game names and trademarks belong to their owners.

1. Who can use Soapstone

You must be at least 13 years old. If you're under the age of adulthood where you live, you need a parent's or guardian's permission.

2. Your messages are public

Messages you leave can be read by anyone, anywhere in the world, along with the place where you left them, in the app and on soapstoneapp.com share pages. They stay up until you or a moderator delete them. We never show who wrote a message, but think about what a message and its location reveal before you post it.

You're responsible for the messages you leave and where you leave them. By posting, you give us a worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and share your messages (including their location) as part of Soapstone, including on the website and in share links. This license ends when the message is deleted, except for copies kept for moderation, as described in the Privacy Policy.

3. Community rules

Soapstone messages are built from a fixed list of phrases, but what you say, and where you say it, still matters. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Don't use Soapstone to:

  • Harass, threaten, or target anyone. That includes placing messages at someone's home, school, or workplace to single them out, or using messages to stalk, intimidate, or reveal where someone lives.
  • Express hate against people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or similar characteristics.
  • Post sexual content, or anything that sexualizes minors.
  • Encourage violence, self-harm, or dangerous or illegal acts. In-game jokes like "try jumping" are fine. Messages meant to lead real people into real danger are not.
  • Spam or advertise, or post messages in bulk.
  • Abuse the service: automating writes or votes, creating identities in bulk, getting around limits or blocks, scraping beyond normal use, or interfering with or attacking Soapstone.
  • Break the law, including trespassing to leave or find messages.

Be safe and respectful of places. Pay attention to your surroundings, traffic, and private property. Don't go anywhere you aren't allowed to be. Messages are written by strangers and may be wrong, misleading, or jokes; never follow one into danger.

4. Reporting, blocking, and enforcement

  • Report any message from the app, from anywhere. Reported messages are hidden from you right away.
  • Block an author from the app to hide their messages near the one you blocked. Blocks are private.
  • We review reports within 24 hours, remove content that breaks these rules, and may remove all of a user's messages or block abusive users from Soapstone, without notice.
  • To report something urgent, or to appeal a removal, email [email protected].

5. The service

Soapstone is a free, hobby-run project, currently in beta. We may change, pause, or end any part of it, and limit how much you can post. We work hard to keep messages safe and backed up, but we can't promise that Soapstone will always be available or that content will never be lost.

6. Ending your use

You can stop using Soapstone at any time, and delete your data from the app's settings (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms.

7. Disclaimers and limits

Soapstone is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. Messages are written by other users, not by us, and we aren't responsible for them. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Soapstone, or from going to places messages are attached to. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

8. Apple

If you got the app from Apple's App Store, Apple's Standard End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app. Apple isn't responsible for Soapstone or its content.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Nevada, United States, except where the law where you live says otherwise.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date, and for significant changes we'll let you know in the app. Continuing to use Soapstone after a change means you accept the updated terms.
